Project operator: CJEL
Governing law: New South Wales, Australia, subject to mandatory laws that apply to you.
1. About these Terms
These Terms are between you and CJEL DIGITAL IMAGING EDUCATION SOLUTION PTY LTD (ABN 59 630 412 047; ACN 630 412 047) (CJEL) and govern your use of the MyUniMentor project and online service operated by CJEL. By creating or using an account, you agree to these Terms and the documents incorporated into them.
Additional terms apply when you:
- - become a Mentor or Super Mentor;
- - make a paid Booking;
- - pay the Membership Fee;
- - participate in Community Contribution;
- - use a registered-professional referral service.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any right that cannot lawfully be excluded, including rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
2. What MyUniMentor does
MyUniMentor provides an online platform through which eligible users can:
- - create student profiles;
- - discover and communicate with Mentors;
- - arrange peer-mentoring services;
- - administer payments;
- - leave optional ratings and reviews;
- - participate in Community Contribution and Super Mentor programs;
- - receive factual career-recognition records;
- - access or be referred to appropriately authorised professionals for matters outside peer mentoring.
The intended student progression is:
Mentee → Mentor → Community Contributor → Super Mentor
Role progression is optional and is not guaranteed.
3. Definitions
Booking means a booking made through MyUniMentor for a Mentor Service.
Community Contribution means an approved optional contribution activity recorded by MyUniMentor. The term does not itself determine whether an activity is volunteering, work experience, employment, an internship or a vocational placement.
Mentee means a user who seeks or books a Mentor Service.
Mentee Platform Fee means the fee charged to a Mentee for MyUniMentor's Platform service, currently 10% of the Mentor Service Price.
Mentor means an eligible user who offers peer-mentoring services.
Mentor Commission means the amount deducted from the Mentor Service Price: currently 10% for a Standard Mentor and 5% for a Super Mentor.
Mentor Service means experience-based peer mentoring offered by a Mentor.
Mentor Service Price means the price set by a Mentor for a Mentor Service.
Professional Provider means an appropriately authorised third-party professional listed, introduced or referred through MyUniMentor.
Super Mentor means a Mentor recognised under the Super Mentor program.
4. Eligibility and age
You must be at least 18 years old to make or accept a paid Booking, act as a Mentor, participate as a Super Mentor, or use other transactional functions we identify as requiring adult capacity.
We may allow a non-transactional account to exist before age verification is complete, but paid and role-based functions remain unavailable until eligibility is verified.
You must provide accurate information and must not impersonate another person.
5. Accounts
You must:
- - keep your credentials secure;
- - maintain accurate profile information;
- - promptly tell us about suspected unauthorised access;
- - use one genuine account unless we expressly approve otherwise;
- - comply with reasonable verification requests.
You are responsible for activity performed through your account unless caused by our security failure or otherwise required by law.
6. Mentor eligibility
Mentor eligibility may require:
- - current enrolment at an Australian university or an approved recent-graduate status;
- - identity verification;
- - enrolment or academic verification;
- - acceptance of the Mentor and Super Mentor Agreement;
- - payment-provider onboarding for paid services;
- - compliance with the Code of Conduct.
We may re-verify eligibility where reasonably necessary.
7. Nature of the marketplace
The intended model is:
- - the Mentor provides the Mentor Service to the Mentee;
- - MyUniMentor provides Platform, booking, communication, payment-administration and support services;
- - a Professional Provider provides their own regulated professional service where separately engaged.
This allocation is subject to any legal characterisation required by Australian law.
8. Mentor relationship
Mentors are intended to operate independently and may:
- - choose whether to participate;
- - set their Mentor Service Price;
- - choose their availability;
- - decide whether to accept available Booking requests;
- - choose how to deliver lawful peer mentoring, subject to Platform safety and integrity rules.
No minimum Booking volume, minimum hours or guaranteed income is promised.
Nothing in these Terms removes any employee, contractor, employee-like-worker or other statutory status or protection that applies in fact.
9. Fees
Unless checkout shows otherwise:
- - Mentee Platform Fee: 10% of Mentor Service Price;
- - Standard Mentor Commission: 10% of Mentor Service Price;
- - Super Mentor Commission: 5% of Mentor Service Price;
- - Membership Fee: $10 once, on the second qualifying paid Booking.
All charges payable by the Mentee must be itemised before payment.
A fee or commission already fixed for a confirmed Booking will not be changed retrospectively merely because a Mentor later gains or loses Super Mentor status.
10. GST and tax display
GST and other tax treatment will be shown only where legally applicable.
At the date this suite was prepared, ABN Lookup showed CJEL DIGITAL IMAGING EDUCATION SOLUTION PTY LTD was not registered for GST. CJEL must not describe its own Platform Fees, Membership Fees or other CJEL charges as including GST unless and until CJEL is registered or required to be registered and the tax treatment is confirmed.
A Mentor's own GST position may differ. MyUniMentor does not assume that every Mentor Service has the same GST treatment.
Mentors are responsible for their own tax obligations except to the extent the law places withholding, reporting, superannuation, GST, SERR or other obligations on MyUniMentor.
11. Membership
The one-time $10 Membership Fee applies under the Membership Agreement.
It is not a subscription and does not automatically renew.
12. Booking Terms
Each paid Booking is additionally governed by:
- - the Booking Terms accepted at checkout;
- - the booking summary/snapshot;
- - the Cancellation, Refund and Dispute Policy in force when the Booking is confirmed.
The version applicable to a confirmed Booking will not be changed retrospectively except where required by law.
13. Payment administration
Payments are processed using approved payment providers such as Stripe and, where enabled, PayPal.
MyUniMentor does not describe funds as being held in "escrow" or on trust unless that is legally and technically accurate.
Mentor payout does not occur merely because time passes.
Payout may occur only when:
- - the Mentee confirms the service occurred; or
- - an authorised MyUniMentor administrator makes an evidence-based payment decision.
A dispute places payout on hold.
14. Confirmation and reviews
Payment confirmation and rating/review should be separate actions.
A Mentee may confirm that the service occurred without being required to leave a rating.
Ratings and reviews are optional and must reflect a genuine experience.
15. Cancellations and disputes
The Cancellation, Refund and Dispute Policy applies.
An administrator may review Platform messages and other relevant evidence to make a payment-administration decision.
An administrator's decision does not prevent either party from exercising legal rights through a payment provider, regulator, consumer agency, tribunal or court.
16. Peer mentoring scope
Mentors provide peer, experience-based support.
Unless separately authorised and engaged under an approved professional pathway, a Mentor must not provide:
- - immigration assistance or personalised visa advice;
- - legal advice;
- - financial advice;
- - clinical or medical advice;
- - other regulated professional advice.
Mentors must not guarantee:
- - admission;
- - a particular academic result;
- - employment;
- - a visa;
- - permanent residency;
- - accommodation;
- - scholarship or professional outcomes.
17. Visa and immigration questions
A Mentor may share genuine personal experience and point a user to official information, within the limits of law.
If a user needs personalised immigration assistance, MyUniMentor may:
- - direct the user to official Australian Government information;
- - refer the user to a currently registered migration agent; or
- - refer the user to an Australian legal practitioner.
Professional services are separate from ordinary student peer mentoring.
18. Academic integrity
You must not use MyUniMentor to:
- - complete or substantially produce assessable work for another person;
- - sit an assessment or exam for another person;
- - impersonate a student;
- - falsify a transcript, application, reference or credential;
- - obtain unauthorised access to university systems;
- - facilitate contract cheating or plagiarism.
19. Community Contribution
Community Contribution is optional.
There is:
- - no minimum contribution quota;
- - no compulsory roster;
- - no penalty for declining;
- - a maximum of 8 unpaid Community Contribution hours per student per Contribution Week;
- - no artificial lifetime maximum on genuine verified contribution hours accumulated across multiple weeks.
A Contribution Week runs from Monday 00:00 to Sunday 23:59 in Australia/Sydney time. Unused weekly hours do not carry forward.
The 8-hour weekly cap is an internal MyUniMentor risk-control and student-wellbeing policy. It does not determine whether an unpaid arrangement is lawful under the Fair Work Act and does not override any visa condition.
Core operational work that MyUniMentor would ordinarily need to engage staff or contractors to perform should not be shifted into unpaid Community Contribution.
MyUniMentor may verify, correct or reject claimed hours.
20. International student work conditions
MyUniMentor does not guarantee that unpaid Community Contribution falls outside a visa work limit.
If you hold a visa with work restrictions:
- - you are responsible for checking your current visa conditions, including through VEVO;
- - if Community Contribution legally counts as "work", those hours must be counted together with all other work you perform, including paid MyUniMentor mentoring and work for other organisations;
- - you must not participate in paid mentoring or other activities beyond your lawful work rights;
- - the 8-hour Community Contribution cap does not guarantee visa compliance;
- - you should obtain authorised immigration advice if uncertain.
MyUniMentor may pause participation where it reasonably believes continued activity could create a visa-compliance risk.
21. Super Mentor program
Super Mentor benefits may include:
- - Mentor Commission reduced to 5%;
- - Super Mentor role display;
- - uncapped verified Community Contribution records;
- - approved merit awards;
- - disclosed ranking benefits.
Super Mentor status is governed by the Community Contribution and Super Mentor Policy.
A Super Mentor is not automatically a MyUniMentor employee, manager, director, partner or agent and cannot bind MyUniMentor merely because of the title.
22. Career records and awards
MyUniMentor may issue factual participation records showing:
- - roles;
- - dates;
- - verified contribution hours;
- - actual peer-leadership responsibilities;
- - legitimate awards;
- - paid mentoring activity where clearly separated.
We do not guarantee that an employer, university, scholarship body, professional body or government authority will treat the record as employment, volunteering, an internship, professional accreditation or a qualification.
23. Professional referrals
MyUniMentor may display or refer users to verified Professional Providers.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, the professional service is supplied by the Professional Provider, not MyUniMentor.
Any sponsored or paid placement will be labelled where required to avoid misleading users.
24. Reviews and public content
We may remove or restrict content that:
- - is fraudulent;
- - is unlawful;
- - breaches privacy;
- - is irrelevant to a genuine experience;
- - contains threats, harassment or discrimination;
- - breaches the Code of Conduct.
We will not remove a genuine review merely because it is negative.
25. Off-platform arrangements
You may communicate outside MyUniMentor, but:
- - MyUniMentor's payment and dispute protections may not apply to payments made outside the Platform;
- - you must not use deception, spam or misuse of another user's data to divert transactions;
- - repeated deliberate fee-circumvention conduct may lead to proportionate account restrictions after notice, subject to applicable law.
26. Suspension and deactivation
We may impose an immediate temporary restriction where reasonably necessary for:
- - safety;
- - fraud;
- - serious misconduct;
- - payment security;
- - loss of required eligibility or professional registration;
- - legal compliance;
- - preservation of evidence.
Where practicable and legally required, we will:
- - give notice of the concern;
- - give reasons;
- - provide a reasonable opportunity to respond;
- - provide an internal review path.
If Fair Work regulated-worker or deactivation protections apply, those statutory protections prevail.
27. Intellectual property
You retain ownership of content you create.
You grant MyUniMentor a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, technically adapt, display, transmit and moderate that content only as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, improve and promote the Platform, unless a separate written content agreement applies.
You must have the rights needed to upload or share content.
28. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy applies.
You acknowledge that authorised MyUniMentor administrators may access Platform messages for defined support, safety, fraud, dispute, moderation and legal-compliance purposes.
29. Third-party services
Payment providers, video-conferencing services, government websites and Professional Providers may have their own terms and privacy practices.
MyUniMentor is not responsible for a third party's independent acts or omissions except to the extent the law provides otherwise or MyUniMentor contributed to the loss.
30. Consumer rights
Nothing in these Terms excludes or restricts rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Where a consumer guarantee applies to a service, the service must meet the standards required by law.
31. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, and excluding Excluded Claims, MyUniMentor's aggregate liability to a user arising from Platform services in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of:
- - AUD $1,000; or
- - the total fees that user paid directly to MyUniMentor in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
Excluded Claims are claims that cannot lawfully be limited, and claims arising from MyUniMentor's fraud, wilful misconduct, or liability that Australian law does not permit us to exclude or limit.
To the extent permitted by law, MyUniMentor is not liable for indirect or consequential loss that was not reasonably foreseeable.
This clause does not reduce a non-excludable consumer right.
32. User indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you indemnify MyUniMentor against third-party claims, losses and reasonable costs to the extent directly caused by your:
- - fraud;
- - unlawful conduct;
- - infringement of another person's intellectual property;
- - unauthorised disclosure or misuse of another person's personal information;
- - material breach of these Terms.
The indemnity is reduced to the extent MyUniMentor caused or contributed to the loss.
33. Changes to these Terms
For material changes, we will normally give at least 14 days' notice before the change applies.
We may make an immediate change where reasonably necessary for:
- - law;
- - security;
- - fraud prevention;
- - urgent safety;
- - payment-provider requirements.
Existing confirmed Bookings remain governed by the version accepted for that Booking unless a change is required by law.
34. Complaints
You may submit a complaint through the support channel shown on MyUniMentor.
We aim to:
- - acknowledge a complaint within 2 business days; and
- - provide a substantive response within 10 business days where reasonably practicable.
Payment disputes follow the separate Dispute Policy.
You may also use any external consumer, regulatory, payment-provider or legal remedy available to you.
35. Notices
We may give notices through:
- - your account;
- - email;
- - another contact method you have provided.
You must keep your contact details current.
36. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.
Nothing in this clause prevents you from relying on a mandatory law or consumer jurisdiction that applies despite this choice.
