CJEL DIGITAL IMAGING EDUCATION SOLUTION PTY LTD (ABN 59 630 412 047; ACN 630 412 047) ("CJEL") operates the MyUniMentor project and online service ("MyUniMentor"). References to "MyUniMentor", "we", "us" or "our" mean CJEL in its capacity as operator of the MyUniMentor project.
1. Purpose
The program helps experienced students develop peer leadership while supporting newer Mentors and the student community.
2. Optional participation
Community Contribution is optional.
There is:
- - no minimum quota;
- - no compulsory roster;
- - no penalty for declining;
- - no promise of paid employment;
- - a maximum of 8 unpaid Community Contribution hours per student per Contribution Week;
- - no artificial lifetime maximum on genuine verified hours accumulated over time.
A Contribution Week is Monday 00:00 to Sunday 23:59 in Australia/Sydney time.
Unused weekly hours do not carry forward and cannot be banked for a later week.
3. Approved activities
Approved activities may include:
- - welcoming/orienting newer Mentors;
- - peer-learning sessions;
- - approved community Q&A;
- - approved student guides/resources;
- - approved educational videos;
- - peer mentoring practice discussions;
- - community events;
- - other approved student-support activities.
4. Activities that should not be unpaid Community Contribution
The program should not be used to shift core company operations into unpaid work.
Activities that ordinarily require a paid operational engagement may include substantial:
- - customer-service shifts;
- - sales work;
- - payment administration;
- - dispute decision-making;
- - content moderation;
- - identity verification;
- - mandatory rostered support;
- - software development;
- - routine business administration.
If such work is required, MyUniMentor should separately determine the lawful paid engagement and worker classification.
5. Hour verification
Each contribution record should identify:
- - participant;
- - activity;
- - date;
- - duration;
- - evidence/source;
- - verifier/system source;
- - correction history.
Hours may be recorded only for genuine activity.
6. Weekly cap and lifetime accumulation
A participant may complete and record no more than 8 unpaid Community Contribution hours in a Contribution Week.
The weekly cap:
- - applies to all unpaid Community Contribution activities combined;
- - cannot be increased by carrying unused hours forward;
- - cannot be avoided by splitting activities across categories;
- - may be reduced by MyUniMentor where student wellbeing, visa compliance or legal risk requires it.
There is no lifetime cap: verified hours may continue accumulating across weeks, semesters and years for as long as genuine approved activity continues.
The 8-hour cap is an internal policy. It does not create a legal safe harbour or make an otherwise unlawful unpaid arrangement lawful.
7. International students
MyUniMentor does not promise that Community Contribution is excluded from student-visa work limits.
If an activity is of a kind that normally attracts remuneration in Australia, it may create immigration-law risk even if MyUniMentor calls it Community Contribution.
International students should:
- - check VEVO;
- - monitor their total work across MyUniMentor and all other employers/platforms/organisations;
- - count Community Contribution hours if the activity legally falls within the meaning of work;
- - obtain authorised immigration advice if uncertain.
The 8-hour weekly Community Contribution cap does not replace the student's visa work limit.
7A. Formal university vocational placements
A formal vocational placement that is required and approved as part of an education or training course is not automatically treated as ordinary MyUniMentor Community Contribution.
If MyUniMentor hosts such a placement, it must be governed by a separate written placement arrangement with the student and, where applicable, the education provider.
Unless that separate arrangement expressly states otherwise after legal review, the 8-hour Community Contribution cap does not authorise extra unpaid placement hours.
8. Super Mentor eligibility
There is no automatic fixed-hours threshold.
A Mentor may be considered for Super Mentor status based on documented:
- - quality;
- - integrity;
- - reliability;
- - leadership;
- - Community Contribution;
- - peer support;
- - good standing;
- - user feedback where fairly interpreted.
9. Early recognition
MyUniMentor may recognise an exceptional Mentor early.
Early recognition must be based on documented merit, not personal favour.
10. Super Mentor benefits
Benefits may include:
- - 5% Mentor Commission;
- - Super Mentor badge/title;
- - verified contribution record;
- - awards;
- - disclosed ranking advantage.
11. Ranking transparency
If Super Mentor status affects search ranking, MyUniMentor should disclose that status is one ranking factor.
Sponsored ranking, if any, must be separately labelled.
12. Loss or pause of status
Super Mentor status may be paused or removed for:
- - serious Code breach;
- - verification failure;
- - material dishonesty;
- - sustained poor Mentor performance;
- - misuse of the role;
- - fabricated hours/award evidence.
Where reasonably practicable:
- - reasons should be given;
- - the Mentor may respond;
- - one internal review should be available.
Loss of Super Mentor status does not retrospectively reprice a confirmed Booking.
13. No managerial authority
Super Mentors are peer leaders only unless separately appointed.
They cannot:
- - hire/fire;
- - discipline;
- - decide disputes;
- - access restricted personal information;
- - release/refund funds;
- - bind MyUniMentor.
14. Legal classification
MyUniMentor uses the neutral term "Community Contribution" unless a specific activity has been legally confirmed as volunteering, employment, a vocational placement or another category.
