What is the first week of semester actually like?

I arrive two days before classes start and I have no idea what to expect. Is there anything I should sort out before day one?

  • Quieter than you expect, then suddenly not. Most of week one is orientation sessions and finding rooms, and almost nobody has done the readings yet, so you are not behind. Two things genuinely worth doing before day one: activate your student ID and campus login, and walk the route to your first class once. Buildings here are scattered and the numbering is rarely intuitive.
