Do I need a car, or is public transport enough in Sydney?

Trying to work out whether to budget for one before I arrive.

  • For a student living near campus, public transport is genuinely enough, and parking near most universities is both scarce and expensive. Get an Opal card in your first week. A car becomes worth considering only if you end up living somewhere poorly served or working shifts that finish after the trains thin out.
